It’s November 24th. The prep work for Thanksgiving meal has already begun. We know December is sure to fly by once again. Why not take a second now and reflect on the status of your 2015 resolutions…
“This year I will lose that last 10 pounds. This year I will finally start working out again.This year I will start eating better.”
January 1st came and you were off like a freight train running at full speed. You went to the gym faithfully, exchanged the drive-thru for a healthy lunch you packed at home, and you made it a priority to stick to a new healthy lifestyle. As the weeks of January flew by, your will power started to fade. By February the excuses started and by March your New Year’s Resolutions were non-existent. And now it’s almost that time of year again and you* still haven’t done a thing about last year’s resolutions. (*by ‘you’ I mean ‘me’ 😒)
Ugh…why do we do this to ourselves EVERY YEAR?
The answer to that question is simple. AHEM! Listen up! This is important!!!! YOU DON’T HAVE TO! What? (insert that funny little minion guy here). January 1st isn’t the only day that you can start something new. Just for one day, it is called making New Year’s resolutions, but any other day of the year they are just called goals. Goals can be started any day you wish. January 1st, March 14th, a Wednesday- whenever. You just have to make the commitment to start and stick with it.
BUT if you have to stick to the New Year’s resolution “game”, you don’t have to completely revamp your entire life and start every last one of your goals at the same time. They are New YEAR’S Resolution. That means you have 365 days to do them.
I personally like to look at New Year’s Resolutions as a big To-Do List.
Every January 1st I get out a notebook and write down all the things that I want to accomplish in the upcoming year. I make sure my goals don’t all start on January 1st. I tend to get overwhelmed if I jump into all of my goals at once. Instead, I like to put all of my focus on one goal at a time, and, like any Type A person, once I have it under my belt I get to put a big, fat check mark on my to-do list.
I try to cross off everything on my list every year, but if I don’t get the opportunity to, I don’t beat myself up about it. I just carry it over to the next year.
Think back to the resolutions you made early in 2015.

Right now is the best time to start. The way to ‘Hack’ the New Year’s Resolution cycle of failure is by thinking of your resolutions as goals for personal betterment year round, and channeling that same Jan. 1st motivation throughout the year. Beginning right now.
We still have a few weeks before the real Holiday hustle and bustle starts (since we will push our shopping back to December 22nd and then curse Amazon if our package isn’t delivered that night via drone) and that is just enough time to make a healthier lifestyle a habit! Delicious fall produce is still in season, the Holiday parties haven’t started QUTIE yet and the gym is typically slower this time of year- so you won’t have to worry about fighting for equipment like you will in the new year. SCORE!
But if are looking to save money for the Holidays, the weather is still nice enough that you can take advantage of natures gym and workout outside.
Go for a walk or a bike ride with your kids, jog around town with your friends or head to a local park and create your own outdoor bootcamp. Win, win!
How NOT to end the year.
Whatever you do, DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT use the time between today and January 1st to binge, laze around and consume everything in sight with the intent of turning it all around in 2016. That will only set you back further from where you want to be and make you feel pretty gross in the process. If you want to get a head start on the rest of the crowd and start working towards your goals or resolutions, GO! Right Now! Grab a pen and write down your “Almost New Year’s Resolutions” and get started today!
Speaking of fall produce, I want to share with you my favorite recipe using Apollo Protein Powder and my favorite fall produce – pumpkin.
- 1 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 6 egg whites
- 2 t vanilla
- 2 scoops Vanilla Milk Shake Apollo Protein Powder
- 4 T coconut flour
- 1 t baking powder
- 2 t cinnamon
- 1/2 t nutmeg
- 1/4 t ginger
- 1-2 packets of stevia
- 1/4 c chopped nuts (optional)
Blend all wet ingredients together in a bowl. Mix all dry ingredients together in a separate bowl. Mix together until blended. Pour in to a lightly greased 8 x 8 baking pan and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Makes 4 servings
